Dental
Laser Treatment
What is it?
The
newest advance in dental technology is the Dental Laser.
Dental lasers are modifications of medical lasers that have been in use
since the 1960's and are a safe and effective treatment for a variety
of dental problems. Using a precise beam of concentrated light energy,
lasers can treat gum disease, de-sensitize teeth, and even whiten teeth.

Lasers
are Safe
Lasers offer the trained dentist a degree of precise control not available
previously. The preciseness of the light energy, directed exactly where
it is needed, is a trait uniquely associated with laser dentistry. The
beneficial effect of lasers has been substantiated by years of research
in medicine and, in the last ten years, by researchers in dentistry. Particularly
in the area of gum disease treatment, lasers have been shown to be an
amazingly easy and effective tool to eliminate the need for conventional
gum surgery.
Laser
Dentistry is Painless
In most cases when lasers are used, pain is either eliminated entirely
or significantly reduced as a result of the laser's selective, precise
control. Thus, with laser dentistry, one of the fundamental advantages
is the need for minimal or even no local anesthetic. In addition, when
performing many of the procedures, the laser also kills bacteria in the
mouth, eliminates bleeding, and reduces pain after the procedure. Lasers
also promote faster healing which minimizes any discomfort associated
with dental procedures.
Laser
Gum Treatment is basically a form of laser assisted periodontal soft tissue
treatment.
As an adjunct to elimination of tartar and under-the-gum debris, the laser
procedure assists in the removal of inflamed epithelial pocket linings
as well as granulation tissue that typically delays healing. The laser
also vaporizes bacterial tissue toxins and weakens sub-gingival calculus
so that it can be easily removed. Laser treatment is especially suited
for gum disease. The small size and flexibility of the fiber optic delivery
system provides for easy access to the pocket. Laser treatment also results
in less bleeding, less post-op pain and discomfort and less trauma. Since
we have added laser treatment we have been able to help many more people
keep their teeth without painful gum surgery.
The
Patient Friendly Alternative to the Drill
Our newest "hard tissue" laser can be used for treating cavities
without anesthesia. The laser gently removes the decay, leaving more of
the healthy tooth intact.
The laser light works to destroy and remove the decay without the uncomfortable
vibration and resulting discomfort of a drill. Rather than a drilling
sound, you hear only a gentle tapping.
Once again we're investing in technology so we can treat our patients
with state-of-the-art equipment for the "gold standard" of care.
